Spring into the arts!

The Cottonwood Heights Arts Council has many upcoming events you won't want to miss!

The Arts Council works hard to provide events that will expand our community’s culture and experience with art, and this spring we have a lot to offer!
Is writing your thing?  Write for the Heights kickoff event will be April 14, at the Whitmore Library.  Six local authors, including Paul Genesse, Robison Wells, and Jesse Parent will speak about their craft.  Following the speakers, guests may purchase books, attend a short workshop, or speak to the authors.  The event begins at 10:30 and will end at 2:00, and is free to the public.

Do you like photography?  A free photography class will be held at the Whitmore Library Auditorium on Saturday, April 21 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. with photographer Jacob Bruner. Use the skills learned in the class to take photographs throughout Cottonwood Heights during the next week. Then on Saturday, April 28 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., framed photographs taken in the Cottonwood Heights area can be submitted at the Whitmore Library Auditorium for a photography contest. There will be a cash award for best photos and an open house to view the contest entries will be held May 31 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Whitmore Library Auditorium.  Participants need not reside in Cottonwood Heights, but all photos submitted must be taken in Cottonwood Heights between April 21 and April 28, 2012. Youth are especially encouraged to participate and submit photos to the contest. Selected photos will be hung in Whitmore Library from May 7 until the end of the open house on May 31. For more information, please contact Karen McCoy at mcfro45@msn.com.

    Winter Songfest

On December 10th, the arts council, in cooperation with Canyons School District, will produce a Winter Songfest.  Various music groups in the area will perform pieces they've been working on during this holiday season--from orchestras to elementary school glee clubs.  This not only gives children an opportunity to perform, but they can also see what their peers are working on.

The event will be held at Butler Middle School, so please carpool since parking is limited while the new school is under construction.  We'll begin at 10:00 AM, and the event will end at Noon.  Don't miss a moment!  You may even catch a glimpse of a special guest!
